Sample Lesson Plan Year 2/US Grade 1
Unit of Inquiry: Sharing The Planet
Central Idea: We have a responsibility to share the planet with other living things.
Lines of Inquiry: Endangered animals and human impact; ways animals adapt to their habitat
Art Task/Provocation: How can I use my skills to create a collaborative art piece?
1. Students will use basic hand-building skills to create a clay animal.
2. Students will create a habitat for the animal.
3. Students will work in a pair using technology to create a stop motion animation of their animals racing!



Nursery loves to explore paint and color. The sensory experiences are part of the learning process.
During Nursery's "How The World Works" Unit of Inquiry, students focused on how things move. Here you see students, exploring some action painting!
Learning through play is the focus of the Early Years Program. How can we use our toys to make marks? How far can we reach and stretch to make a mark?

Year 2 explored paper making during their materials unit. Where does paper come from?

We had a visitor in Year 2! Our friend Matt, is a former elephant keeper at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi, Kenya. The students Unit of Inquiry "Sharing The Planet."
Students were required to put pictures in order that reflected the paper making process as part of their assessment of learning.
The students loved speaking with Matt about the rescued baby elephants and his responsibilities as an elephant nanny.
Reception explored the theme of community. Using cardboard, students explored different things that make up a community. Then students added what they found to be important in a community. Examples such as a pet shop, hospital, school and police stations were created!
Children learn through play. At the end of the Unit, student had the opportunity to play with their creations.
